De Wereldschool in Schiedam biedt Centrale Opvang Nieuwkomers (CON) en is speciaal bedoeld voor wereldkinderen van 4 tot 12 jaar die het Nederlands nog niet voldoende beheersen om op een reguliere school mee te kunnen komen. Ons toegewijde team biedt deze kinderen een warme en veilige eerste opvang en maakt ze wegwijs binnen de nieuwe (school)cultuur. Na ongeveer een jaar begrijpen, spreken, lezen en schrijven de leerlingen het Nederlands goed genoeg om over te stappen naar een vervolgschool.
Bij alles wat we op school doen, staat het leren communiceren in dagelijkse situaties centraal. Samen met de kinderen werken aan het verbeteren van hun woordenschat en mondelinge taalvaardigheid. We leren ze dit ook toe te passen in andere vakken, zoals rekenen. Elk kind is betrokken bij zijn of haar eigen leerproces, wat zorgt voor een goede voorbereiding en aansluiting op de vervolgschool.
Ons pedagogisch klimaat is afgestemd op kinderen uit alle culturen, met ieders eigen bagage en overtuigingen als uitgangspunt. We luisteren en kijken naar de kinderen. We leren ze wat de kracht is van de uniciteit van eenieder. Dat doen we vanuit een intercultureel perspectief, waarbij wij een balans zoeken tussen kennis en begrip voor de wereld en de Nederlandse cultuur, zodat de kinderen dit als positieve bagage meenemen.
In onze schoolgids-2023-2024 vindt u informatie over de school. Bij de intake ontvangen ouders een compacte versie van onze schoolgids. De compacte versie is beschikbaar in de volgende talen: Nederlands, Engels, Turks, Arabisch en Oekraïens. In het jaarverslag 2022 kunt u teruglezen aan welke doelstellingen de school heeft gewerkt.

The Wereldschool in Schiedam
The Wereldschool in Schiedam (CON) is specifically designed for children from all over the world aged 4 to 12 who speak little or no Dutch. Our dedicated team provides these children with a warm and safe school environment and guides them through the new (school) culture. After approximately one year, the students understand, speak, read, and write Dutch well enough to transition to a regular primary or secundary school.
In everything we do at school, the focus is on learning to communicate in daily situations. Together with the children, we work on improving their vocabulary and oral language skills. We also teach them to apply these skills in other subjects, such as math. Each child is involved in their own learning process, ensuring a good preparation and connection to the next school.
Our educational climate is tailored to children from all cultures, considering everyone’s individual backgrounds and beliefs. We listen to and observe the children, teaching them the strength of each person’s uniqueness. We do this from an intercultural perspective, seeking a balance between knowledge and understanding of both the world and Dutch culture, so that the children take this positive baggage with them.
In our 2023-2024 school guide, you will find information about the school. During the intake, parents receive a compact version of our school guide. The compact version is available in the following languages: Dutch, English, Turkish, Arabic, and Ukrainian.
